Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra Will Use Award to Inspire and Cultivate Excellence in Youth Through Music Education
Spectrum today announced the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra (GDYO) will receive $10,000 through the 2022-2023 Stand For The Arts Awards, a partnership with Ovation TV that recognizes local arts, cultural, and educational organizations and programs. Since the initiative started in 2017, Ovation TV and Spectrum have given out 60 awards totaling $600,000 towards arts education.
“Our partnership with Ovation TV will enable these organizations to continue to serve as vital arts and cultural resources in their communities – which complements our focus on investing in and strengthening the towns and cities we serve,” said Adam Falk, Senior Vice President, State Government Affairs for Charter Communications, Inc., which operates the Spectrum brand of Internet, TV, Mobile and Voice services. “We congratulate this year’s Stand For The Arts honoree Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra for its commitment to supporting North Texas musicians and expanding access to high-quality arts education, exhibits, concerts, and performances.”
The GDYO will use its 2022-2023 Stand For The Arts funding to continue its mission to inspire and cultivate excellence in youth through music education, ensemble building, and performance opportunities.
Spectrum and Ovation TV representatives will join GDYO staff and musicians for a presentation acknowledging the award at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 25, at Galleria Dallas, 13350 Dallas Parkway, Dallas, TX 75240. The event on Level 1 across from Tiffany & Co. will include a special ensemble performance and check presentation.
“The Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra is thrilled and honored to be an award recipient this year,” said Cathy Havicon, GDYO executive director. “It’s a validation for all our efforts over the past 51 years to bring music education to the North Texas community and beyond.”
The Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra, a 501(c) 3 nonprofit, was founded in 1972 by a group of parents, educators, and musicians who valued music education and the outcomes it could provide. The program cultivates learning and creativity, as well as social and motivational skills in around 470 talented young musicians, performing in 10 ensembles. GDYO musicians socialize with a diverse group of highly talented peers from over 50 communities in the Metroplex, as well as interacting with professionals from the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, The Dallas Opera Orchestra, the Dallas Winds, and multiple other local music ensembles.
GDYO is one of 10 organizations receiving support in Spectrum markets across the country. Select arts organizations are awarded $10,000 Stand For The Arts contributions based on the following criteria: support of creatives and artists via community-driven programming; as advocates for equity and access to the arts; and for providing accessible spaces for creative expression.
“We are pleased to continue our work with Charter as we enter a sixth year of our Stand For The Arts initiative partnership,” stated Sol Doten, Senior Vice President, Content Distribution and Partner Marketing for Ovation TV. “It remains our priority to champion community-driven arts organizations as they support artists and creatives on a local level.”
