Los Angeles, CA: Ovation TV, America’s only arts network, celebrates diversity in the arts through both its programming and its advocacy platform Stand for The Arts, a national initiative to raise awareness, protect access and encourage action on behalf of the arts. For 2021’s Women’s History Month, the arts network recognizes women artists across all mediums through a curated on-demand programming lineup and public service announcements.
The Stand For The Arts PSAs shine a light on arts organizations that champion women and young girls as they pursue their artistic passions. Stand For The Arts (SFTA)’s core principle is to ensure access and equity in the arts; SFTA and Ovation honor this important month by celebrating leaders who create inclusive environments in which women and girls can thrive and foster their talents.
Throughout the month of March, the arts network is airing multiple PSAs highlighting such organizations, including Chicago’s 3Arts, which supports the work of deaf, disabled, BIPOC and female-identifying artists; its 3ER relief fund for artists needing help with groceries, rent and paying bills during the coronavirus pandemic. In Los Angeles, though in-person meetings have stopped, WriteGirl, a creative writing and mentoring organization that promotes creativity, critical thinking and leadership skills to empower teen girls, continues to reach young women with online programs and mentoring. Each PSA recognizes the importance of seeing, hearing, and experiencing the art of women artists, and directs viewers to the Stand For The Arts website for more information.

The arts network also highlights women artists who have made a significant impact on the national and international stage, with documentary films and series exploring their careers and craft. One film, Beyoncé: Queen B, follows the singer’s journey, examining her time in Destiny’s Child, her solo career, her Grammy awards, and her movie roles. Dolly Parton: Queen of Country looks at the story behind the most honored female country performer of all time, tracking her 40-year career from childhood to the top of the charts.
